Filing: Getting organised & getting ahead

Filing: Some people love it, some people hate it. Me? Depends on what side of the bed I’ve woken up on, on any given day. And to be honest, as we are heading full steam ahead into the digital age, the need to store paper files is decreasing. That being said, if you still prefer to keep paper records, here are my top tips for creating a filing system that will work for you:

✨ Create a designated "Meetings" folder: anything that needs to be handed off or discussed within a meeting setting can go in here. You'll be prepared and won't stress if your meeting gets brought forward.

✨ Waiting on responses from customers about quotes sent, or a reply about that invoice you disputed with your supplier? Pop them in your "Waiting on response" folder. Don't have one? Create one! Just make sure to check it every couple of days to see if anything needs to be actioned.

✨ If you're anything like me, you have a pile of helpful articles that you are wanting to read. You definitely don't want to lose them so keep them all in one place in a brand new "Reading" File!

✨FILE WEEKLY. Yes I am shouting. This will save you bags of time when it comes to needing specific documents for tasks such as filing self-assessments, company meetings or audits. And if HMRC do decide to pay you a visit, you can have peace of mind knowing everything is exactly where it should be. Get yourself a paper tray and label it "To be filed", then everything is in one place ready to go away.

✨ Archive Files when things are completed. Make your current folders for current projects or financial years.
